Karol studied chemistry at the University of Gdańsk, where he completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. His early research focused on flavonol derivatives as fluorescent probes for monitoring the enzymatic activity of β-glycosidases. During his Master’s studies, he completed a six-week internship at Durham University, where he gained his first experience in photophysics. In 2019, Karol began his doctoral research on perylene diimides and benzothiadiazole derivatives for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. Alongside his main PhD project, he contributed to studies on TADF and the heavy-atom effect in the group of Prof. Illia Serdiuk, funded by an NCBiR LIDER grant. He defended his PhD in 2026. Outside the lab, Karol collects and propagates rare plants. He is also a cat lover and enjoys music and cinema.
