Saptarshi obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Presidency College, University of Calcutta, India, in 2013, and his M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry from Presidency University, Kolkata, India, in 2015. He then joined the Organic Optoelectronics Lab at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata under the supervision of Prof. Debansu Chaudhuri, where he completed his PhD in 2022. His doctoral research focused on the synthesis and characterisation of solvent-induced supramolecular self-assemblies and supramolecular polymorphs of chromophoric materials, including their stimuli-responsive behaviour, to establish structure-property relationships relevant to organic semiconductors. Following his PhD, he pursued postdoctoral research at the Advanced Soft and Functional Materials Lab, University of Missouri, USA, under Dr Jinjia Xu, where he investigated excited-state properties and twisting kinetics of flexible molecular motors. He subsequently joined the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry at the Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he worked on the development of porous crystalline thin films for chiral optical applications. He secured the Ulam NAWA Fellowship 2025, which led to his position in the Gawel Group. Outside of research, he enjoys listening to music, watching sports, and travelling.
